WebJunction Courses (many free for RI members!) & Webinars
10:42 AM EDT 9/3/09
Hi everyone,

WebJunction offers free courses (& some reduced price courses) to all RI members. There are seven self-paced courses in chilldren's services, and many others in other content areas.. Once you sign up on WebJunction RI, you can sign up for these courses and do them at your own pace.

There are some guidelines to review regarding the courses because the state of RI only receives a finite number of free/reduced price classes each year. Please read the guidelines first: http://ri.webjunction.org/ri-learning.

Here is a link with specific information (from Karen Mellor and Chaichin Chen) about how to sign up for a course as a WebJunction RI member: http://ri.webjunction.org/c/document_library/get_file?folderId=32573985&name=DLFE-7130003.pdf.

To access the course list, choose "Courses" from the tool bar at the top of the WebJunction Rhode Island page (http://ri.webjunction.org). If you are not signed into RI as a WebJunction member, you will see a price attached to the courses. Once you are signed in, the price will switch to $0.00 (or $25.00)!

When you finish your course, you will receive a certificate of completion.

Here are the names (&prices) of the Children's Services courses:

Accompanying the Young Reader: Helping the Reader Choose Appropriate Books (LibraryU) Self Paced $0.00

Creating Collaborative Lessons for the Elementary School (LE@D) Self Paced $0.00

Creating Compelling Programming in Your School Library (LE@D) Self Paced $0.00

Multicultural Literature for Children and Young Adults (LE@D) Self Paced $0.00

Planning Story Times for Children (LibraryU) Self Paced $0.00

Reaching Reluctant Readers (LE@D) Self Paced $0.00

Trends in Children's Literature (LE@D) Self Paced $0.00

If you have taken a course, can you let us know which one and what you thought? If you take one, please let us know what you think.

There are also webinars on a variety of topics (it looks like most are 1-hour long presentations) you can view by going to the archives: http://ri.webjunction.org/events/webinars/webinar-archives. Let us know if you watch any and think they are worth recommending!

Thanks so much,

Cheryl
