RIASPA's Annual Lights On Afterschool! Breakfast of Champions

The registration brochure for the Rhode Island Afterschool Plus Alliance's Lights On Afterschool! Breakfast of Champions, which will occur on Friday, October 23, 2009, at the Providence Marriott on Orms Street, is now available! Please visit our web site to download the PDF version of the brochure. The link is located in the "News and Calendar of Events" section of our home page.

Coinciding with the national celebration of Lights On Afterschool!, the Breakfast of Champions will call attention to the critical need for and importance of afterschool and summer programs to children, youth, families, and communities; and increase awareness and support for afterschool and summer programs among policymakers, funders, and other decision makers.

Our keynote speakers will be National Book Award-winning author Jonathan Kozol and CNN anchor and special correspondent Soledad O'Brien. The breakfast will also feature an interactive panel discussion with Mr. Kozol, Ms. O'Brien, and invited guest Ms. Deborah A. Gist, our state's new Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education; awards presented to afterschool programs; and a youth performance.

There is an early-bird registration rate of $40.00 if you register by September 30. (Please see page seven of the brochure for specific details to receive this rate.) We expect this event to fill up quickly, so the sooner you are able to register, the better.
