Hi everyone,

I'm here at OLIS now - my first day on the job was last Tuesday, July 7th. I met some of you at the June YART meeting, but just in case, here is a brief introduction.

My name is Cheryl Space and I am the new Youth Services Coordinator at OLIS (Melody Allen's former position). Since 1996, I have worked at the Providence Public Library. My most recent title was Coordinator of Children's Programs (since 2001). Before PPL, I was a school library media specialist at an elementary school in Columbia, South Carolina, for two years. My primary responsibilities have been in the early childhood area, but I have done some work around programming for middle school youth through a collaboration with the Providence After School Alliance (PASA), a relatively new initiative in the city of Providence. I also worked with our high school age ReadTeens, a book buddy program that matched juniors/seniors from Providence High Schools with 6-9 year old children. The teens were paid and worked between 10 and 20 hours a week.

I am looking forward to getting to know all of you, learning more about YA services, and attending YART meetings. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if I can be of assistance.
