YA staff training

Has anyone ever done YA staff training for their library? I need to help train non YA staff how to deal with YA patrons. Has anyone got any ideas about a staff training that might work? Many thanks!

This is a good question. I think it is often assumed that only YA librarians need special training for dealing with YA patrons. This is such an important age group to reach and not alienate, it makes sense to me to offer training to the entire library staff.

In smaller libraries, there is not the luxury of having a dedicated YA librarian, so it's likely that the staff is better prepared to address the needs of everyone who walks through the door, regardless of age. I'd love to hear some examples of how that works.

What a great question. I know here in our small library, staff of 3, we do all our "training" sort of "on the job." So, I can't really give you any suggestions on training, but how about some other people?
